Description
The White House is a house located on Mill Street in Eynsham, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a refronting and extension around 1830. The exterior is roughcast over limestone rubble, topped with a gabled stone slate roof, and features a left end stack made of stone finished in 17th-century brick. The house has a two-unit plan that has been extended to a double-depth plan, standing two storeys tall with a four-window range.
On the ground floor, early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows are positioned beside a smaller eight-pane sash in a blocked doorway, while the first floor has six-pane sashes. The façade includes a raised storey band and fluted pilasters, along with a coved cornice. To the right, there is a 19th-century extension that is roughcast, featuring a gabled 20th-century tile roof and a brick end stack, along with a reset six-panelled door.
At the rear, there is an early 19th-century range constructed of chequer brick, which includes sash windows and a Welsh slate roof. Inside, there is a straight-flight staircase dating to around 1830 located at the rear of the front range, which also has boxed beams, an open fireplace with a bressumer to the left, and a collar-truss roof with butt purlins.
