Description

The Vicarage and attached outbuilding date from around 1704, with significant enlargement and remodelling around 1810. The building is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with a hipped stone slate roof and 20th-century tiles to the rear range. Brick stacks are located laterally and along the ridge. The original central-staircase plan was enlarged to a double-depth plan in the early 19th century. It is two storeys and a basement, with a five-window front. The window arrangement is 2:1:2, with a pedimented porch projecting forward. The porch features early 19th-century stone steps with iron balustrades, leading to a six-panelled door with cast-iron brackets supporting a flat hood. Keyed flat stone arches provide lintels to the 18th-century two-light basement windows, and early 19th-century six-pane sashes are present on the upper floors. A moulded wood cornice runs along the top of the front elevation. The rear range, also from the early 19th century, has similar arches over six-pane sashes and a bracketed flat hood over the basement door. The interior was not inspected but likely contains features of interest, including an early 18th-century staircase. To the right is an early 19th-century coach house and offices, which have been altered for 20th-century garage use. A screen to the left includes a short wall, railings and a reset doorway from the early 16th century, featuring the arms of Abbot Miles Selby, Bishop of Llandaff, who served from 1500 to 16.
