Description
Derwent House is a house from the early 19th century, featuring a 20th-century porch. It is constructed of dressed sandstone with finely milled ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with rendered stacks. The building has a central stairhall plan, is two rooms deep, and includes a rear service wing. The front elevation is two-storey with three windows and has quoins. The central entrance features a part-glazed and panelled door with an overlight, set beneath a scroll-bracketed cornice within an enclosed porch. The windows are 16-pane sashes with stone sills, with the first-floor centre window set in an architrave. The remaining windows have quoined surrounds and heavy lintels. There is a moulded timber eaves cornice and a hipped roof with end stacks that pierce the roof pitch. Inside, the ground floor has panelled window shutters throughout. The 20th-century porch at the front is not of special interest.
