Description

Burton House is an early 19th-century house with a later extension, located on the west side of Garth Lane in West Ayton. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone and features a concrete tile roof, with one brick and one stone chimney stack. It has a central stairhall plan and is one and a half rooms deep, with a rear service wing and a lean-to extension added to the left, which is not of special interest.

The house is two stories high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The central entrance consists of a four-panel door beneath an overlight, framed by a Doric doorcase with attached fluted columns and an entablature. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, stone sills, and heavy lintels throughout. The gables are coped, and there are end stacks.
