Parish Church, Duffus Village

The Parish Church in Duffus Village, designed by Alexander Reid (A and W Reid) and built between 1868 and 1869, is a Gothic-style rectangular church. It features long four-play elevations on the north and south sides, with a prominent porch at the southwest under a spire. The church is constructed of rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. The square porch projects and rises to an octagonal louvred belfry adorned with Gothic detailing, topped by a tapering octagonal spire that culminates in a decorative cast-iron weathervane.

The entrance is recessed and pointed-headed, flanked by nook-shafts and a double leaf door fitted with ornate cast-iron hinges. The south elevation is buttressed and illuminated by three pairs of narrow lancet windows with hoodmoulds, while the north elevation has similar windows. The east gable features a pair of pointed-headed windows with geometric tracery, and the west gable has a large wheel window, all with lattice-pane glazing. The rainwater goods are dated, and the church has a steeply pitched slate roof with apex cross finials.

Inside, the church has a simple design with a pine dado, pews, and a decorative pine panelled front for the west gallery. At the east end, there is a raised square pulpit with cusped detailing on the front, and an organ is located at the rear.
