Description
The dovecot at Round Square, Gordonstoun House, dates from around 1600 and is designed in the beehive style. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and is situated on a mound. The structure has a large, barrel shape and features the typical four stages, culminating in an apex entrance for the birds. There is a concave underside to the first rat course and a single small flight hole, which is now blocked, located on the south side above the first rat course. A low doorway is positioned to the east.
Inside, the dovecot contains approximately 700 stone nesting boxes arranged in decreasing rows, and the floor is paved. There are marks in the center of the former plinth that would have supported a potence.
