Description
North Church, located on Church Road in Keith, was designed by A and W Reid and built between 1845 and 1846. This rectangular church features a west-facing entrance front made of coursed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. The entrance is a pointed-headed recess situated in a slightly advanced central bay, flanked by clasping buttresses that rise to a central projection resembling a tower. Atop this projection is an octagonal bellcote spire, which includes small lucarnes on alternate facets and an apex finial, along with pointed-headed louvred openings. The angle buttresses are capped with octagonal finials.
The church has five bays on the flanks, each illuminated by narrow pointed-headed windows, and there is a circular light in the east gable. Most windows feature leaded glazing, and the roof is covered with slate.
Inside, the church has a simple galleried layout. The gallery front is shaped with panelled detailing and is supported by slender cast-iron columns. The east end of the church has a renewed dado and panelling, along with a later pulpit.
