Description
The War Memorial on Land Street in Keith, designed by Sir George Washington Browne in 1919, consists of two sections enclosed by a low coped wall, all made of polished ashlar stone. At the rear, a square ashlar plinth with a low wall supports a bronze figure of a Highland soldier, accessed by shallow steps. The front features a low rectangular cenotaph with flanking walls, also fronted by shallow shaped steps. The cenotaph is designed as a rectangular chest topped with stepped blocks, which include a wreath and swag frieze, along with inscribed bronze panels and a wreath below. Surrounding the memorial are simple cast-iron railings on low tooled rubble walls, with entrances on each side flanked by simple ashlar gatepiers that have shaped or pyramidal caps.
