Description
The War Memorial located in Cluny Square, Buckie, was designed by W Birnie Rhind, RSA, and constructed between 1924 and 1925. It features a tall squared angle-pilastered polished ashlar plinth set on a shaped and stepped base. Above the plinth, a corniced entablature supports two bronze figures: one is a kneeling seaman and the other is a standing soldier holding a banner. Bronze plaques on each face of the plinth commemorate those who fell in the wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1954. The memorial is enclosed by cast-iron bollards topped with gilded caps, which are linked by chains. There is a simple pedestrian entrance that is closed off by cast-iron gates adorned with crosses.
