Description
This building at 176 Mid Street in Keith dates from around 1860 and is a two-storey structure with an attic, featuring a regular five-bay layout. The ground floor consists of shops, while the dwelling is located above. The front is made of tooled ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings, and the flanks are constructed from rubble.
The central door is positioned beneath a keystoned round-headed light and a shallow pediment. The three bays of the flanking shops are marked by narrow cast-iron pilasters with stiff leaf capitals and recessed entrances. The shop windows have modern glazing and panelled aprons, topped by a deep fascia with hand-painted lettering.
On the first floor, the windows are linked by an eaves band, and there are canted dormers in each outer bay, along with a central bargeboarded gabled dormer, all featuring four-pane glazing. The building has end stacks and is topped with slate roofs.
