Description

The South African War Memorial in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow, was sculpted by William Birnie Rhind in 1906. This war memorial features a seated figure of a uniformed soldier atop a squat obelisk made of ashlar stone. The base consists of loose rocks, while the lower part of the obelisk is polished ashlar that displays an inscription in bronze lettering on the west face and a bronze plate on the east face. The upper level of the obelisk is rock-faced.
