Description
The Prince of Wales Bridge, built around 1894, is a park bridge featuring a single depressed arch that spans the River Kelvin. It is faced with red ashlar stone, with channelled voussoirs, abutments, and pilasters flanking the arch. The bridge has ornately carved spandrels that display the City of Glasgow crest. It features a shallow ramped wide roadway and a polished pink granite parapet that is balustraded over the arch, while the approaches are plain and widely curved. The die pedestals made of granite sit over the pilasters and support decorative cast-iron lamp brackets. The soffit of the bridge is constructed of red brick.
