Description
The Roberts Memorial, located in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow, was unveiled in 1916 and is a replica of a monument by Harry Bates ARA in Calcutta, dedicated to Field Marshal Earl Roberts, which was erected in 1915. This classical aedicular monument is made of granite and consists of three main stages. At the top, it features a lifesize equestrian bronze statue of Lord Roberts. The tall moulded plinth supports four Corinthian columns, which hold a canopy that supports the base of the statue. Recessed within the columns is an oblong granite slab that bears dedicatory inscriptions on the east and west sides, while the frieze includes bronze base-relief panels depicting martial scenes. On the north and south sides, there are seated lifesize bronze figures representing War and Victory.
