Description
The South African War Memorial in Ludgate, Alloa, was designed by Robert Lorimer and sculpted by W.B. Birnie Rhind in 1904. This memorial commemorates the Boer War and is made of coursed polished stone. It features a stepped two-stage plinth with a tooled panel that reads "IN MEMORIAM." The lower stage has a cartouche, while the upper stage displays the Alloa heraldic shield with the tooled motto "IN THE FOREFRONT." The memorial is topped with a sculpture of a kilted soldier, who stands with his hand on his revolver over a wounded colleague.
