War Memorial, Fettes College, Edinburgh

The War Memorial at Fettes College in Edinburgh was designed by William Birnie Rhind in 1919 and cast by George Mancini in 1933. It features a bronze statue of a fallen kilted officer with a raised arm, set on a corniced sandstone plinth. The plinth is inscribed with the words 'Carry On'. There are bronze plaques displaying the names of the fallen, with the front plaque featuring winged Victories holding a garlanded cartouche that reads 'To the glorious memory of Fettesians who gave their lives for their country in the Great War 1914-1918'. The memorial is surrounded by a U-plan coped sandstone wall, which includes a bronze lion and stag bearing heraldic shields.
