23 Bruce Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow

23 Bruce Road is a two-storey villa built in 1875, featuring a square plan. The exterior has three bays and a full-height canted bay on the right, with a consoled doorpiece and constructed from snecked rubble. The interior includes work from around 1898 in what was originally the dining room, now a sitting room, which is panelled with slim-pilaster divisions. This room showcases rich relief designs between the pilasters and at the door, along with high-quality metal craft work on the door and shutter hinges, door furniture, and bell pulls. The former library, now the dining room, is earlier and has a coarser design, featuring an elliptically-arched chimney piece with grotesque head baluster pilasters. The overmantel and bookcases are treated with Ionic columns and have glazed curvilinear angles.
