Description

Wemyss Parish Manse, located at 11 and 13 Main Street in East Wemyss, dates back to 1791. This former manse is a two-storey and attic building with a three-bay, L-plan gabled design that has been converted into two flats. The exterior is harled with stone margins and quoin strips, featuring base and eaves courses. Notable architectural details include a corniced doorpiece and first-floor Venetian windows, along with stone mullions and stop-chamfered arrises.

On the south elevation, there is a wide part-glazed panelled timber door in the centre bay at ground level, with a window to the right and a canted window to the left, which has a cornice and blocking course. The first floor has a window in the centre and Venetian windows in the flanking bays, with small piended and canted dormer windows above the outer bays.

The north elevation features a centre bay with a stone forestair leading to a door between floors and a window above close to the eaves. The outer right bay has a window on each floor and a chamfered angle, while the advanced piended bay to the left has a window on each floor returning to the right.

The west elevation is gabled with a small attic window to the left in the gablehead. The windows are timber sash and case, with small-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, while the rear wing has pantiles. The chimneys are coped harled stacks with a full complement of cans, and the skews are ashlar-coped.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls and features a square-section, pyramidally-coped ashlar gatepier.
