Description

25 and 27 Main Road in East Wemyss is a two-storey building with a raised basement, designed in a stylized classical revival style by architect A Stewart Tod around 1930. The structure has an L-shaped plan and features three bays, with prominent segmental and triangular pediments and a balustraded porch. The exterior is harled with painted margins and includes band and eaves courses. The basement has keystoned round-headed arches with voussoirs.

On the southeast elevation facing Main Road, there are advanced bays on the left, which contain two small openings at the basement level, two windows on each floor, and a broad segmental pediment that breaks the eaves, leading to a bellcast roof with a stack at the apex. To the right of the center is a recessed bay with a blind arch at the basement, a moulded tablet below the ground floor window, and an additional window on the first floor.

The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, features a single bay with a balustraded dog-leg stair leading to a stone porch that has a balustraded parapet at the ground floor. The door is accompanied by a small window on the left.

The northeast elevation, overlooking the memorial garden, has a single bay with a voussoired arch at the basement that forms a culvert for Chemiss Burn. It includes a window at the ground floor and a tablet inscribed with 'DEUS ADEST LABOR ANTIBUS' on the first floor, flanked by full-height pilasters and topped with a steep pediment.

The northwest elevation is a three-bay façade, with the central and right bays slightly advanced. It features three round-headed arches at the basement, regular fenestration on each floor above, and an additional window between the floors on the outer right.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The building is finished with coutra tiles, coped harled stacks with a full complement of cans, ashlar-coped skews, and overhanging eaves. Decorative cast-iron downpipes with rainwater hoppers complete the exterior.
