Churchyard, Wemyss Parish Church, Main Street, East Wemyss

The churchyard of Wemyss Parish Church, located on Main Street in East Wemyss, dates from the 17th century and later. It features coped rubble walls that incorporate a War Memorial and enclose the church and graveyard, both of which are listed separately.

On the north wall, there are mural monuments, including one dated 1646 that displays emblems of mortality and trade, and another from 1761 commemorating 'H SPENS DD VDM AP WEMYSS'. The apex stones are predominantly moulded and exhibit a variety of carved details. Notable memorials include one for 'James Auchmuty, late brewer in East Wemyss, died 1788', which features an upright stone with fluted flanking pilasters, anthemion capitals, ball finials, and a dentilled cornice. Another memorial is for 'David Kinnear, Gunmaker, Buckhaven', dated 1816, which includes carvings of a gun, powder pouch, and crown. There is also a memorial for 'Peter Laverock, feuar in Buckhaven, died 1816', which is carved with a plough.
