Description

Balgonie Cottage is a house dating from the early to earlier 19th century, with minor alterations. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features three bays. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the sides are constructed from squared and coursed rubble, and the rear from squared and snecked rubble, with raised ashlar quoins. The cottage has a deep base course and an eaves cornice.

The north elevation, which is the entrance, is symmetrical. There are three steps leading up to a part-glazed modern timber door at the center, framed by a corniced deep cavetto surround and topped with a modern slated canopy. The windows in the flanking bays have been altered, while the first floor has regular fenestration and slate-blinded dormer windows over the outer bays.

On the south elevation, there is a small modern flat-roofed porch at the center, with a window in the bay to the right and a partially blocked window to the left. There is a stair window at the center and windows in the outer bays on the first floor.

The east elevation is mostly blank, featuring a blinded window at the center on the ground floor. The west elevation has a window in the center on both floors.

The cottage has timber sash and case windows with a four-pane glazing pattern, except for the first floor on the north side, the ground floor left, the first floor right, and the porch on the south side, which all have modern top-opening windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has broad, tall coped ashlar stacks with some chimney cans and ashlar coped skews.

There is a single-storey outbuilding made of rubble with a pantiled roof, featuring two timber doors, an additional opening to the north, and a blocked window to the east.
