Description

The Dovecot at Garden House, located at 9 The Old Orchard in Limekilns, dates from the mid to late 17th century and is a single-bay lectern doocot. The southeast elevation features exposed coursed stone, while the southwest and northwest elevations are finished with harling. A continuous dressed stone string course runs around the building, stepped at the gables, and there is a moulded eaves course.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central low doorway with a replacement boarded door set in a stone surround. Above this doorway, an oval flight hole has been blocked. The northwest elevation also has an oval flight hole situated above the string course. The northeast elevation was not visible during the 2000 inspection, and the southwest elevation is plain.

Inside, the stone nesting boxes remain intact. The roof is a south-facing monopitch design, covered with slates and featuring ridge finials, crowstepped gables, and moulded skewputts.
