Description
The Dovecot at Strathtyrum House is a rectangular-plan lectern dovecot dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, with a restoration dated to 1819. It measures 5.8 meters long by 5.4 meters wide and is constructed of sandstone rubble with hammer-dressed quoins and a slate roof. The ashlar skews feature shouldered skewputts.
On the south elevation, there is a timber boarded door with a hammer-dressed surround at the center, along with a projecting alighting ledge that returns to the rear elevation. A stone panel displays the initials I.C. and the inscription "Repaired 1819." Above, six round-arched flight holes break the eaves and are topped with a scrolled armorial pediment.
At the rear (north) elevation, stone steps lead up to another timber boarded door, which was likely added during the 1819 restoration.
Inside, the dovecot features largely intact stone nesting boxes that line all four walls from floor to ceiling.
