Description
Strathtyrum House is a significant building dating from around 1720 to 1740, featuring three storeys, with the ground and second floors appearing lower. The façade has five windows, with the central three projecting and topped by a pediment that includes a circular window with in-and-out voussoirs. The roof is a tall slated piend, complemented by large chimneys. It is said to contain older work at the lower levels.
The southeast section, added around 1805 to 1815, is a two-storey front addition with a basement, with its main floor aligned at the first-floor level of the original house. This part has a symmetrical façade made of droved ashlar, with the central section of three closely spaced windows projecting and topped by a pediment. It features a single-storey semi-circular Roman Doric portico with a balustrade on top, and three windows on either side. The building has a cornice and blocking course, with a low piend slated roof. The end elevations are blind with one window each.
Inside, the original work reflects a late Adam style, particularly in the early 19th-century section.
