Description

Limekilns Parish Church, built in 1825, is a classical church that stands two storeys high and features three bays. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the other sides are harled. The principal elevation showcases two-storey Giant Order pilasters and a full-width pediment. The openings have raised dressings, and there are moulded raised dressings along the base, band, and eaves courses on the front.

On the south elevation, there is a central replacement two-leaf door with a fanlight featuring oval cames and a bracketed pediment above. Flanking the door are single windows with bracketed pediments and decorative fluted consoles, alongside paired corniced pilasters. Above, three first-floor windows are centred beneath a dominant moulded pediment.

The west elevation has a door to the right and features five large round-headed windows on both the ground and first floors. The north elevation is partially obscured by a single-storey hall, but it has two round-headed stained glass windows on the first floor of the church, with flanking windows in the outer bays. There are also two small windows in the gable apex and a corniced, open stone bellcote at the gable apex that houses a single bell.

The east elevation mirrors the west with five large round-headed windows on both floors and a door located at the far left. The church predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, raised skews, and a grey slate pitched roof.

Inside, staircases in the vestibule to the left and right of the main door lead to a gallery. Doors on either side open into the church, which contains three sets of timber pews. A central communion table is located to the north, accompanied by a timber communion table and a raised pulpit with flanking steps. Two round-headed stained glass windows depicting scenes of the Resurrection flank the communion table. The gallery, supported by cast-iron columns, holds seven sets of pews and features a timber frontage. The interior includes a cornice and a central plaster ceiling rose, with walls painted in lime green and pews painted white.

The boundary wall consists of a low rubble wall at the front and sides, topped with curved coping stones. There is a small entrance gate and steps leading to the front, as well as steps and a gate to the west that lead to the adjacent manse.
