Description
The War Memorial, located on Main Street in Ormiston, was designed by Finandra Bose in 1925. It is situated in front of the Miners' Welfare Institute and features a semi-circular enclosure made of red sandstone ashlar, which is supported by piers. The roadside is closed off by decorative wrought-iron railings. At the center stands a banded ashlar column topped with Ionic capitals, which supports a bronze figure of a nude youth. The base of the column includes a bronze inscription panel commemorating those who fell in the First World War, with additional names from the Second World War flanking it.
