Description
Benham is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay house located on High Street in Ormiston. The building has an almost square plan and is constructed with stugged, squared, and snecked masonry, featuring ashlar dressings.
The west elevation has a corniced doorway at the center, with a deep-set, fanlit door. There are windows in the flanking bays and above in each bay on the first floor. The east elevation features a stair window at the center, which has been altered as a door with a forestair added. The north elevation includes a door and window at the ground level, while the south elevation is adjoined by an earlier, lower house known as Darneill.
The windows are sash and case style, with a six-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and features late 19th century piend-roofed dormers that are slate-hung and canted on the west elevation. The building has ashlar coped skews and corniced end stacks, with some original cans still retained.
