Description
Avenue House, located at 5 The Wynd in Ormiston, was built in 1888 and is a two-storey house situated on a corner site. The exterior is harled with grey ashlar dressings, featuring chamfered reveals and a cornice. The east elevation has three bays, with a corniced door at the center, flanked on the left by a stone mullioned bipartite window and on the right by a wide, segmentally arched window that serves as a shop window. Above the door is a square window on the first floor, with flanking windows that break the eaves in gabled dormerheads; the left dormer has a round arch with "PR" incised, while the right dormer is gabled and incised with "88". There is also a further corniced door on the side elevation to the left, which serves as a shop door, with a first-floor window above it. The west and south elevations are adjacent to terraced houses.
The windows are sash and case style, featuring small-pane upper sashes and plate glass below. The roof is covered with grey-green slates, and there are ashlar coped skews with crude attempts at scrolled skewputts and end stacks.
