Description
Maitland House, located at 1 Bridge Street in Jedburgh, is a two-storey and attic, four-bay house and shop built in the later part of the 19th century. It is situated on a curved corner site and constructed from squared and snecked cream sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar margins and stop-chamfered arrises.
The west elevation, which faces the front, includes a shop front in the left bay, flanked by a pair of slender fluted and panelled pilasters that support a fascia and cornice above an inset door and large window. Above this, there is a decorative tripartite window. To the right, the three-bay house section has regular fenestration, with a panelled door featuring a rectangular fanlight and a stop-roll-moulded doorface in the right-hand bay. The roof has three canted dormers.
The windows are four-pane timber sash and case, with a single pane in the side lights of the dormers. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are brick stacks and a cast-iron gutter at the eaves.
