Description
The Medical Hall, located at 20 High Street in Peebles, is a late 19th-century building with an earlier 20th-century shopfront. It is a three-storey, three-bay house featuring a shop on the ground floor. The exterior is made of stugged cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings, raised margins, and stop-chamfered arrises. The building has quoin strips and a cornice with a blocking course.
On the ground floor, there is a panelled door to the right, which is topped by a three-pane fanlight set in a basket-arched doorway. To the left, there is a three-bay timber shopfront with a set-back glazed door at the centre, flanked by plate glass windows that have panelled aprons and stained and leaded upper lights. The fascia features raised lettering. The first-floor windows are adorned with shaped and insised architraves and lintels, while the second floor has a lintel course and segmental-headed windows.
The rear elevation is irregular and includes a large stair window at the centre of the upper floors. The building has four-pane timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, coped dressed ashlar apex stacks, and ashlar-coped skews. The interior was not seen in 1994.
