Description
22 and 24 High Street in Peebles is a house dating from the earlier to mid 18th century, with later additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring modern shopfronts on the ground floor and a large three-storey projection at the rear. The front is finished with cement render that mimics rock-faced ashlar at the first floor, with droved margins, quoins, and an eavesband, while the rear is covered in pebbledash.
On the south (front) elevation, there are two modern shopfronts at the ground floor, with regular window arrangements above. To the right of the center, there is a carved panel depicting a pair of baxter's peels crossed in saltire, accompanied by a scuffle between them, which is inscribed and dated 1724. A cast-iron skylight is also present.
The north (rear) elevation features a large three-storey addition with irregular openings. The front has plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the rear displays a variety of timber windows. The roof is covered with green slate.
The interior was not seen in 1994.
