28-30 South Street, Duns

28-30 South Street in Duns is a late 19th century, two-storey and attic house situated on a gusset site, featuring a bakery shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed from squared snecked and stugged cream sandstone.

The south elevation facing South Street has three bays. On the ground floor, there is a three-bay shopfront on the left with a central door flanked by two-pane shop windows, although the basement opening below the right window is blocked. To the right, there is a deep-set panelled door with a three-pane letterbox fanlight and flanking windows, with a large window to the right and a narrow window to the left. The entire shopfront is painted with a single fascia. On the first floor, there is a window in each bay, with a bipartite window in the centre. The roof features a pair of triangular dormers with brick facing, bargeboards, and triangular-headed windows.

The west elevation is blank and finished in dry dash.

The north elevation facing North Street is an irregular two-storey, five-bay design. At the centre, there is a staircase bow with a panelled door and a three-pane letterbox fanlight on the ground floor, along with two stepped windows above. The flanking bays contain a variety of windows, while the outer bays feature large windows on each floor, with the right bay also having a door at ground level.

The building has timber sash and case multi-pane windows, with the principal windows being 16-pane. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has ashlar coped skews and brick stacks.
