Description

Breadalbane Bakery, located at 39 Dunkeld Street in Aberfeldy, dates back to 1881. This two-storey and attic building features a four-bay design and includes a shop on the ground floor, constructed in a stone dormer style within an irregular terrace to the northeast. The exterior is made of squared and snecked chlorite-slate rubble with ashlar margins.

The southeast elevation, which is the principal façade, is symmetrical. It has a central door at ground level, with a shop entrance in each of the flanking bays. All doors are two-leaf panelled timber and are topped by a corniced fascia. The first floor has four windows, with a moulded date panel positioned centrally above them, and there are four dormer windows that break the eaves.

The southwest elevation features a gabled design with a window located to the outer left on both the ground and first floors.

On the northwest (rear) elevation, there is a mix of architectural elements, including a slightly lower gabled bay that projects at the centre. This bay has a timber forestair leading to a small corrugated porch with two tiny windows. There is also a dormer window breaking the eaves on the return to the right and an additional dormer on the set-back face at the outer right.

The building has horizontal three-pane and four-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. It features cavetto-coped ashlar stacks with a full complement of cans, many of which are polygonal. The eaves overhang with plain bargeboarding, and there are cast-iron downpipes and guttering, along with a decorative rainwater hopper and fixings.
