114-116 Portobello High Street, Portobello, Edinburgh

This building, located at 114-116 Portobello High Street in Edinburgh, dates back to 1878 and has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey and attic, two-bay baronial tenement featuring a shop front on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed from stugged ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, while the side elevation is made of sandstone rubble, and the rear is sandstone with a brick turnpike stair tower at the center. There is a cill course at the first floor, a corbelled stepped eaves course, and hood-moulds above the first-floor windows, which have chamfered margins.

On the southwest (principal) elevation, the ground floor shop front has stop-chamfered stone mullions. To the right is a modern timber door with a basket-arched plate glass fanlight above it. To the outer left, there is a boarded timber door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight above. A broad fascia runs above the shop windows. The first-floor features shouldered windows with corbelled cills, and the attic storey has angle-shouldered windows with recessed plaques. A carved date stone is located to the right, and a monogram is to the left.

The northeast (rear) elevation is three storeys high and has three bays. It features four-pane timber sash and case windows and a slate roof with a platform at the apex. The attic dormers have crow-stepped skews and gables. There is a bull-faced rendered wallhead stack to the northwest and a harled and coped mutual stack to the southeast, both with moulded octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1994.
