Description

17 and 19 Dunkeld Street in Aberfeldy is a pair of two-storey and attic tenements built in 1897. These four-bay buildings feature a gabled design and house a Post Office along with shops on the ground floor. The structure is made of squared chlorite-slate rubble, accented with contrasting ashlar dressings. Notable architectural elements include some round-headed windows, hoodmoulds, stone mullions, and decorative bargeboarding.

On the southeast elevation, the bays to the left of the center include a pend door on the outer right and five narrow lights with flanking doors on the left. All doors are made of panelled timber and feature plate glass fanlights. This section is topped with a deep banded fascia that displays two suspended 'POST OFFICE' signs and a modern 'SPAR' sign. The first floor has two bipartite windows, and decorative guttering leads to two round-headed windows that break the eaves into dormerheads. The bays to the right of center mirror this design but include two modern shops at ground level and square-headed dormer windows.

The southwest elevation presents a gabled facade with a window to the left at ground and attic levels, and an additional window to the right at the first floor. The windows throughout feature 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case designs, with round-headed windows showcasing decoratively-astragalled upper sashes. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the building has coped ashlar stacks with cans. Overhanging eaves are adorned with decorative bargeboarding. The property also features cast-iron downpipes, some with barley twist and square sections, along with decorative fixings, rainwater hoppers, and decorative gutter fixings, including cast-iron finials.
