Description

Hobart House is a late 19th-century, two-storey and attic small tenement with a shop on the ground floor, located at 21 The Square in Aberfeldy. The building is constructed from squared and snecked chlorite-slate rubble, featuring slab lintels and painted ashlar. It has a base course, a cornice at the ground floor, and part of the first-floor cill course. The openings are architraved, lugged, and segmental-headed, with corbels and stone and timber mullions.

On the west elevation, there is a slightly advanced ashlar bay on the outer right, which includes a corniced and keystoned doorpiece with a panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight at the ground level. Above, a cill course leads to a single window with a glazed oculus set in a shaped corniced gable. To the left, there are three bays featuring a central shop door at ground level, flanked by stone pilasters and a broad modern door, with two-part display windows in the adjacent bays. The first floor has three windows, and there are two stone dormers above with a rooflight in the centre.

On the south elevation, facing Old Crieff Road, there are two segmental-headed windows at ground level flanking a corbelled canted four-light oriel window on the first floor, with a three-part dormer window above. The upper windows have a six-pane glazing pattern, while the lower sashes have a two-pane pattern, and the oriel and dormer windows feature a multi-pane glazing pattern. All windows are timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans. The eaves overhang with plain bargeboarding.
