Description

23-29 High Street in Musselburgh is an early 19th century building that stands three storeys high and is three windows wide. The ground floor features a segmentally arched pend, with the remainder replaced by a notable Victorian shopfront. The building has a slate roof with end stacks and is constructed from coursed rubble, which includes raised margins around the windows and a band course below the corniced eaves. Above the cornice, there is a shop fascia supported by tall slim colonnetes with Ionic capitals. Flanking the arched doorway in a recess are two slender columnar shafts, and the doorway features a panelled ceiling with carved spandrels at the outer arch. A semi-circular fanlight is situated above the shop door, and there are two small attic windows on the return gable end. The building also includes six-pane sash windows.
