68-74 English Street, Dumfries

68-74 English Street in Dumfries is an early 19th-century building that has undergone some alterations. It stands three storeys tall and features three bays. The exterior is finished in painted droved ashlar with margins and rusticated quoins.

The building has a pair of Edwardian shop fronts, characterized by slender shafts and flanking pilasters, topped by a continuous blocked cornice. There are modern fascia boards above the shop fronts and a central close doorway with a panelled door and fanlight. The upper floors have cill bands and an eaves/lintel band, with central tripartite windows that include blind outer lights. The left bay has bipartite windows, which were originally single windows. The sash windows throughout the building have either a 4 or 8-pane glazing pattern. The structure is capped with a cornice, has end stacks, and features a slate roof.
