Description
This building, located at 47 and 49 English Street in Dumfries, dates from around 1800 and is a three-storey corner tenement with shops on the ground floor. The eastern gable facing Loreburn Street is blank. The upper floors are symmetrical, featuring five bays with a central pediment that supports a chimney stack, and an elliptical plaque in the tympanum. The exterior is finished in painted droved ashlar with raised margins around the windows. The sash windows include two bays on the right with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the other windows have been reglazed with a 4-pane glazing pattern. There is an off-centre door leading to the upper flats and two pilastered shop fronts. The building also features an eaves and lintel band, a cornice, and a slate roof.
