Description
23 English Street in Dumfries is an early 19th-century building that stands three storeys tall and features five bays. The exterior is made of painted, droved ashlar. The central entrance is a plain stair doorway, while the main hotel door is located to the left, accompanied by a consoled pediment. The ground floor was originally channelled but now has large windows; the public house on the right side has slim shafts with foliated capitals, and the fascia is highlighted by consoles. The left side has modern ground floor windows. The upper floors are fitted with plate glass sash windows, with some metal-framed. There are three piended dormers, end stacks, and the roof is covered with slate.
