Description

Mill House, located on Station Road in Gifford, is a late 18th-century, two-storey mill house set on sloping ground. The building features slightly later additions at an oblique angle and has undergone various alterations over time. It is constructed from harl-pointed red rubble with ashlar dressings, some of which are droved.

The west elevation presents a three-bay façade, where a former central door has been blocked and converted into a window. There are windows in the flanking bays and above each bay on the first floor. To the north, two bays are positioned at an oblique angle, with a door on the right and a window above, along with two smaller windows in the left bay. The outer left section at the north features two lower storeys, which may have served as a former byre with a hayloft, and includes two windows.

The east elevation is asymmetrical, with enlarged first-floor windows. A modern porch has been added to the ground level on the outer left, and a modern conservatory is located on the outer right, shielded from the outbuilding by a projecting screen wall. There is a lean-to rubble outbuilding attached to the south gable wall, which has a first-floor window on the left side. The building predominantly features a 12-pane glazing pattern in its sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, while the outbuilding to the north has a pantiled piend. A variety of stacks can be seen at the gable wallheads.
