Description
Oldfields is a single storey and attic house located at 2 Glenorchy Road in North Berwick, built in 1923 by J R McKay. It is designed in the late Arts and Crafts style, featuring a whitewashed harled exterior with a base course made of red engineering bricks.
The south front has an off-centre right segmentally arched porch with a tiled floor, accompanied by a window to the right. To the left, there is a flat-roofed stair bay with a parapet, which includes a raised arch and a geometric brick pattern above the stair window. The outer bay to the left has a gabled design with narrow lights flanking a first-floor window, and a single narrow light at ground level.
On the north front, there is a jerkin-head gabled dormer at the centre, flanked by tile-hung roof dormers, all featuring sweeping piend roofs. The projecting right bay at ground level incorporates an outbuilding with a less steep roof that continues with the main roof sweep.
The west side has a higher central bay with a doorway below, flanked by a window to the right, and features irregular openings. The east side includes a splayed canted brick bay at ground floor with a cornice above, and there are two central first-floor windows.
The house has small-pane casement windows and a red plain tiled roof, which is half-piended at the east and west sides. The chimneystacks are harled with red clay pots, and the eaves are overhanging.
