Description
Solsgirth, located on Erskine Road in Gullane, is a building designed by J R McKay in 1933. It is a single-storey structure with an attic and features a harled exterior.
The south elevation has advanced bays at the center, showcasing an arched ashlar door surround on the left, which includes a panelled door with brass fittings. To the right, there are two small windows, along with a stair window and a bipartite window above. The eaves extend over the ground floor windows of the outer bays. There is a doorway in a flat-roofed linking passage to the right, leading to a square-plan, piend-roofed garage and an adjoining pentice-roofed outbuilding.
On the north elevation, the advanced center bay features a splayed, canted three-light window, with slate-hanging between the ground and first-floor windows. The recessed outer bays include a tripartite window to the left and a single light with a tripartite window to the right. There is also a small row of three lights on the garage to the left, along with the pentice-roofed outbuilding.
The east and west elevations both have flat-roofed, splayed canted bays at the ground level, with a bipartite window on the east gable. The roof is piended, and there are projecting attic floor windows. The sash and case windows feature a glazing pattern of 4, 8, 12, or 16 panes. Above the outer bays, there are flat-roofed, slate-hung single light dormers. The roofs are covered with green slate and have overhanging eaves, complemented by harled, battered ridge stacks.
