Description

9 Lasswade Road in Dalkeith is a two-storey house built in 1923, designed in the English vernacular style with an attic on the first floor. The exterior is harled, with an engineering brick base course that rises to the window sills, and painted stone cills. The roof is a low-pitched gambrel style, featuring large gableheads and broad gabled dormers on the longer sides, all designed to mimic timber framing. The eaves are overhanging, with a timber eaves band, and some windows have canopy fixtures.

On the west (entrance) elevation, there are three widely spaced bays. The central bay features a brick doorpiece with a moulded red sandstone lintel, flanked by small windows on either side. The entrance consists of a two-leaf panelled door with a glazed internal door. To the right, there is a canted window in the bay, while the left bay has a window and the gabled dormer above contains another window.

The north elevation, facing Lasswade Road, has two bays, both with canted windows. The right bay includes two-leaf French windows, and there is a window in the gablehead.

The east elevation has a window at the center, with a bay to the left that is advanced and features a cat-slide roof. There is a door on the right return and a window on both the east and left returns, along with a window in the gabled dormer.

On the south elevation, there are windows to the left and right of the center, with an additional window to the right. A window is also present in the gablehead.

The windows have a small-pane glazing pattern, with some casement windows featuring top-hopper openings. The windows flanking the door have red glass. The house has two harled ridge stacks at the center and is topped with red tiles. The property is enclosed by a semicircular coped rubble wall, and there is a timber garage located to the northeast.
