Langlands Lodge, 48 Eskbank Road, Dalkeith

Langlands Lodge is a villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century, featuring two stories and three bays. The building is constructed of rubble that is squared and coursed on the west elevation, with ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a cill course at the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course, along with raised angle margins.

The east elevation facing Eskbank Road has a consoled corniced canopy over an architraved door at the center, which is topped by a plate glass fanlight. The windows on both the ground and first floors are arranged regularly, with cast-iron window guards featuring an anthemion and palmette design on the first-floor windows in the outer bays.

On the north elevation, there is one window at the center on the ground floor and another window to the left on the first floor. The sash and case windows have an 8-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring both a piend and a platform design, and there are corniced wallhead stacks at the center of the north and south sides.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of a semicircular coped rubble retaining wall, with the coping forming an overthrow to the pedestrian gate. There are two square ashlar piers that are corniced and topped with pyramidal caps.
