Description

Strathesk is a villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century, featuring two storeys and three bays. The east elevation is constructed of ashlar, while the other sides are made of squared and snecked rubble. It has a base course and a cill course at the first floor on the east elevation, with raised margins.

On the east elevation facing Eskbank Road, there is a semicircular-arched doorway at the center, which includes a plate glass fanlight, a panelled door, and flanking moulded panels. The ground and first floors have regular window arrangements.

The south elevation, which faces Avenue Road, has a window on both the ground and first floors to the left, and a window at the first floor along with a small diamond-paned window on the ground to the right.

The west elevation features an advanced piended bay to the left, with a window at the first floor. There is also a door and window at the first floor on the south return, and a blind window at the first floor in the right bay. A later addition includes a slate-hung platform roof and a window on the wedge-shaped gable, adjoining the right side of the advanced block.

On the north elevation, there is a window on both the ground and first floors, predominantly featuring an 8-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows. The roof is a mix of piend and platform styles with deep eaves. The villa has individual corniced and chamfered, rendered and lined wallhead stacks, with a group of four at the center behind the eaves on the south side and a group of three on the north. There is also a truncated wallhead stack behind the eaves to the left on the advanced block, all covered with grey slates and original cans.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of a semicircular coped squared and snecked rubble retaining wall. There are two chamfered and corniced pyramidal-capped gatepiers, with "Strathesk" inscribed on the left pier, and a corniced overthrow for the pedestrian gate on Avenue Road. Additionally, there are two coal hatches to the left on the Avenue Road wall.
