Description

3 The Avenue in Gifford is a later to late 18th century, two-storey end of terrace house with a basement at the rear, built on sloping ground. The exterior is made of warm-coloured rubble sandstone, which is coursed and snecked on the east front, featuring ashlar margins. The margins of the gable and windows at ground level are rendered with cement.

The east elevation has three bays, with a central doorway and a window close to the right. There are windows flanking the outer bays and additional windows above in each bay at the first floor, positioned under the eaves.

On the west elevation, there is a stair window at the centre. An addition to the basement projects to the right, featuring a flat roof and French windows on the ground floor that have been inserted into the original structure. The original windows remain in the outer bays at the first floor, also located under the eaves.

The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with pantiles, with a slate easing course. There is a mutual gable stack, and the gable end stack has been repaired in brick.
