Description
This drinking fountain, located on High Street in Musselburgh, dates from the late 19th century and is designed in the Free Renaissance style. It has an octagonal shape with carved panels on the shorter sides. The main faces feature conch-headed niches that are set in pilasters, each with cast-iron spouts and polished granite basins below. Above these are console keyblocks, although many details have eroded over time. The fountain is topped with a cornice that displays a Vitruvian scroll. Its ogival top is decorated with a fish-scale pattern between the ribs and is finished with a sculpted finial. The fountain is set on two shallow circular steps.
