Description
The Jubilee Fountain, located on High Street in Nairn, was built in 1897 and is designed in the Neo-Jacobean style. This hexagonal drinking fountain is made of red polished granite. It features a stepped base with two troughs that are fed by spouts shaped like lion heads. Above this base is a hexagonal plinth that supports six polished granite miniature Roman Doric columns, which encircle another trough that is also fed by lion head spouts mounted on a central column. The fountain includes a frieze and parapet adorned with strapwork detail and the dates 1837-1897. An ornate wrought-iron lamp stand is present, although the gas lamp and bracket have been removed.
