Description

The Royal British Legion Club, located on Cawdor Street in Nairn, dates from around 1800. It is a single-storey building with a raised basement and an attic, featuring three bays. The central bay, which is slightly advanced, has a door framed by a pediment. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with harled side and rear elevations, complemented by polished ashlar rusticated quoins and dressings.

A flight of steps leads up to the central door, which is adorned with corniced and moulded architraves, and the pediment is topped with three urn finials. A later entrance door, similar in style to the original, has been added to the west elevation and is also accessed by steps over the raised basement. The building has 12-pane sash windows with ashlar margins, shouldered ashlar chimneys, and a piended slate roof, along with two modern flat-roofed dormers.

At the front, there are a pair of square ashlar gate piers with raised angle margins, cornices, and square plinths that support acorn finials. These piers are connected by a plain iron lamp bracket and holder, and there is a modern wrought iron gate. The property is enclosed by a low rubble wall topped with an ashlar cope.
