Normanhurst, 16 Westgate, North Berwick

Normanhurst, located at 16 Westgate in North Berwick, is an early 19th-century classical house featuring a symmetrical design with three bays, two storeys, and a basement. The exterior is constructed from squared and coursed rubble, with rusticated quoins and ashlar dressings, while the sides and rear are harled. The building has raised margins, a base course, a band course, and eaves courses.

On the south elevation, there is a flight of stone steps leading to a tripartite doorway, which is adorned with a wrought-iron balustrade and a painted, Ionic fluted pilastered doorpiece. The doorway features a segmentally arched decorative fanlight and a panelled door, with tripartite windows on either side and bipartite windows in the basement.

The north elevation includes a stair window at the centre and a full-height canted bay to the right. The windows display a variety of glazing patterns, including small-pane and plate glass sashes. The roof is piended and covered with slate, featuring lead flashings and coped end stacks. A rubble boundary wall separates the front and back gardens.

Inside, much of the original decoration has been preserved, including a decorative iron balustrade with a timber rail, pine panelled doors, plaster rose and cornice decorations, and window shutters.
